Site Feedback

Solicit feedback from a classmate regarding the design and implementation of your Dragon/Segway Project. I’d like you to spend the next week incorporating the suggestions from this critique into your project. When critiquing others keep in mind that we are all at different places skill-wise. Be constructive in your criticism and remember to also include what you like as well. Before you begin revisions. Make a copy of your original draft website and link it from your homepage. There should be two links, Project Draft and Project V2.

 

Assignment

  1. Implement a contact form solution on your Dragon Project. If necessary create a contact page. Try to integrate the form with your site design as much as possible. (We will cover this on Thursday)
  2. Due Thursday (2/18) – Before class send me the url of your project draft.
  3. Due Thursday (2/25) – Create a blog post on the Dragon project. Include the site URL, Feedback you received,  How you improved/fixed your site based on what your reviewers recommended. There should also be a working version of a contact form implemented.

Semester Wrap Up

  • Course Evaluations
  • Peer Evaluations (Fill out once per team member, Do not evaluate yourself). Failure to evaluate your peers will negatively impact your grade. Due 12/7.
  • Web Assessment. Due 12/7 at Noon.
  • Package all project materials in a Team Drive that is shared with all faculty (ERD, Database export, All website files, documentation, etc.) Due 12/7.
  • Register for ITEC 4610
  • If you have non-profits or other causes that you support in the Central Arkansas area that would benefit from a web/database project next semester please direct them to the request form. We are currently looking for capstone projects.
  • Have a great holiday break!

I encourage you to work on this over break next week so I can field questions in class the following week. This will count as your final for web for the semester.

Read the following Article on Progressive Enhancement. Write a blog post. explaining progressive enhancement in your own words. Please discuss why it is important to use progressive enhancement and include a link to another article you found and read relating to the topic. Due before class Wednesday.

Due next Monday 10/8 – Email me the final implementation of your Dragon project. In a blog post, I’d like to hear about your experience working on this project. What did you do well? What would you do differently? I’d also like you to reflect on the feedback session with your classmates. What did you improve based-on what your reviewers recommended? There should also be a working version of a contact form implemented.

Project Lab

 

Assignment

This week’s objective is to establish a wireframe version of your site concept. By class on Wednesday, you should have an outline of the layout created using Bootstrap. On Wednesday, I will review your progress with each of you individually. By Wednesday of next week, you should have your initial design concept and, at a minimum, a page template ready to submit to me as a draft.

Image Creation and Optimization

Assignment

Create a banner image to insert into the header of your prototype document. Using the technique covered in class, insert the image you created and optimized, into the document. Please email me a copy of the optimized header image you created. Bring questions to class on Monday.

In addition, please review the resources available at w3schools regarding bootstrap. Next week we will be using this framework to build a simple responsive web site.

Image Manipulation

Assignment

Write a blog post that includes the image we manipulated today in class and the Icon generated from the tutorial. Briefly write about your experience working with Gravit and it viability as an image manipulation tool.

CSS Review

Assignment

Complete the following tutorial and submit the icon you create in the tutorial.

Create an Icon in Gravit

You should email this icon to me before class the Wednesday following Labor Day (9/5/18). I do not expect you to perfectly replicate the icon in the tutorial but I would like to see a solid effort from each of you. This is a challenging assignment so I encourage you to not wait until the night before it is due. Good Luck!
